Yatagala Rajamaha Viharaya

What?
This is a 2,300-year-old Buddhist temple near Unawatuna, built during the reign of King Devanampiyatissa.

It can be visited all year long, though mornings offer a serene experience.

From the Unawatuna-Heenatigala road, travelers can reach the Yatagala Rajamaha Viharaya (temple). It is an old rock temple, which was built during King Devanampiyatissa’s reign. The main things that visitors can see are a 9-meter long reclining Buddha statue and walls decorated with paintings.
