The Samadhi Buddha Image is located at Mahamevuna Park in Anuradhapura. It is considered to be one of the best crafts made during the Anuradhapura reign. The statue is about 2.4 meters high and is made of granite. The statue reflects the Buddha’s position of Dhyana Mudra (a sitting statue with a posture of meditation), which is the posture of meditation associated with Buddha’s first enlightenment, called Nirvana. The eyes of this statue are made of special precious stones, as they look as if they were hollow.
