Ruwanveli Maha Seya Dagoba is located in Anuradhapura, about 213km from Colombo. It is the third largest dagoba in Anuradhapura and one of eight main places of worship in the city. The stupa is also known as Mahathupa and Great Stupa. It was built by King Dutugamunu, who reigned from 161 BC to 137 BC. This dagoba is about 100m high and surrounded by a wall decorated with full-size sculpted elephants. There are also many stone statues of King Dutugamunu, Queen Vihara Mahadevi, and King Bhathika Tissa.
