Pahiyangala
What?
This is a prehistoric cave, believed to have been inhabited by humans.
Where?
It is located in the Kalutara district and approximately 70 km from Colombo.
When?
It can be visited all year long, though mornings are ideal for exploration.
Pahiyangala was the place where Pahiyan Bhikshu from China stayed during his visit in the 3rd century AD. It was popular because of its rock cave and its forest. In addition to that, Pahiyangala has become famous after the recent findings of a 6,000- years- old full skull of a man and a 1300- years- old elephant skull.
