Mannar Adam’s Bridge is located close to Talaimannar. It is a famous 30m long bridge made of a chain of limestone. It is between Pamban Island (Rameshwaran Island), near the southeastern coast of Tamil Nadu (India), and Mannar Island, near the northwestern coast of Sri Lanka. Geological evidence shows that the bridge connected India and Sri Lanka.
According to a known legend (Epic Ramayana), this is the place where the king Rama marched his army to get back his wife Sita from the king Ravana. Today the Mannar Adam’s Bridge is home to many sea urchins and water birds. The Sri Lanka Navy facilitates boat tours for the travelers from the old pier at Talaimannar. It is about 15 km from the mainland to the bridge.
