Maligatenne Monastery, with its rocky mountain temple, consists of a small dagoba right on the top of the high mountain. The historical records show that King Walagamba used this temple as an asylum when he escaped the Indian Chola invaders. In the temple premises, there are several caves, and all are on different levels and of various sizes.
