Lovamahapaya is one of eight main places of worship in Anuradhapura. It is located between Ruvanweli Maha Seya Dagoba and Sri Maha Bodhi, 2km from Anuradhapura Railway Station. It was a massive nine-story building. One side was 120 meters long, and there were 1600 pillars altogether. It was built by King Dutugamunu in 150 BC as the monks’ residence for the Mahaviharaya Buddhist University. Because the roof was covered with bronze tiles, it was known as the Brazen Palace or Lohaprasadaya.
