What?
This is a magnificent Buddhist temple from the Gampola era, blending Sinhalese and South Indian architecture.

Where?
It is located in Udunuwara, Kandy District and approximately 120 km from Colombo.

When?
It can be visited all year long.

Lankatilaka Temple is located near the Embekke Devalaya at Udunuwara Hiyarapitiy. It is mainly a Hindu worship place but also has Buddhist paintings, a Buddha image, Kandy-period paintings, rock-face inscriptions, and stone elephant figures. This Lankatilaka Temple was built by King Buwanekabahu IV on a huge rock, which belongs to the Gampola era, and this temple is an example of the Buddha and God worship that prevailed during that era. Many places of worship can be seen here– Gods Vishnu, Saman, Vibhishana, Ganapathi, Skandhakumara, and Kumara Bandara.
