Kalpitiya Beach is a vast sand dune beach in the Puttalam district. It is perfect for surfing, windsurfing, boat riding, kite surfing, snorkeling and scuba diving, whale and dolphin watching, or simply relaxing in the sun. Sports equipment is available to rent. The best time for diving and snorkeling is between late November and early May because of the monsoon period in other months. Moreover, Kalpitiya Beach is an important marine sanctuary. A lot of tropical fish, beautiful and colorful coral formations, and other forms of marine life can be seen here.
