Hetadage is an ancient monument in Polonnaruwa, which was built to house the tooth relic of the Buddha during the reign of King Nissanka Malla. One legend has it that Hetadage was built in 60 hours, and another that it housed sixty relics with the tooth relic of Buddha. The significant things to see are solid stone walls surrounding the building, three standing Buddha statues, and the Sandakada Pahana (the Moonstone) at the entrance with the lion, a rare symbol on the Moon-stones of the Polonnaruwa Kingdom.
