What? This is the second-largest botanical garden in Sri Lanka, famous for its diverse collection of orchids, roses, and temperate flora.
Where? It is located on the Nuwara Eliya-Badulla main road, about 16 km from Nuwara Eliya Road and approximately 160 km from Colombo.
When? It can be visited all year long, but March to April is the best time to visit when the flowers are in full bloom.
Hakgala Botanical Gardens is located 9.5km southeast of Nuwara Eliya at an elevation of about 1,745m above average sea level. It is the second largest botanical garden in Sri Lanka. This beautiful park is placed among Sri Lanka’s tea plantations. It extends over about 28 hectares and is rich with roses, shrubs, ferns, orchids, and montane woodland. The gardens receive rainfall from two monsoons. The best time to visit the gardens is supposed to be from mid-March to the end of April, which is also the best season for traveling to Nuwara Eliya.
