Galway’s Land National Park

What?
This is a small but ecologically significant national park, known for its montane forest and rich birdlife.

Where?
It is located in Nuwara Eliya, Central Province, Sri Lanka, about 2 km east of the city center and approximately 159 km from Colombo.

When?
It can be visited all year long, but the best time to visit is from December to April, when the weather is ideal for birdwatching and nature walks.

The park is situated about 1.5km from the Nuwara Eliya town. It is perfect for travelers who like experiencing a highland forest and bird-watching. It was acknowledged as a wildlife sanctuary in 1938 and upgraded to a national park in 2006. Galway’s Land National Park is an important birding site in the hill country of Sri Lanka with around 20 rare migrant bird species, 30 native species, and valuable native and foreign floral species. There is the Galway Forest Lodge close to the park, and the park is open daily.
