Diving areas at Hambantota

What?
This is a haven for underwater enthusiasts, offering opportunities for snorkeling and diving to explore vibrant coral reefs and marine life.

Where?
It is located in the Hambantota district and approximately 240 km from Colombo.

When?
The best time to visit is from November to April for calm seas and clear visibility.

Two of the best diving areas are located around Hambantota: the Great Basses is about 40 km east of Hambantota, and the Little Basses is about 80 km east of Hambantota. There are numerous wrecks and various large fish species and a lighthouse that was built in the middle of the 19th century. Note that these dive sites are suitable for experienced divers only because of very strong currents.
