What? This is a chain of small islands in the Palk Strait, part of the remnants of Adam’s Bridge.
Where? It is located in Mannar District and approximately 250 km from Colombo.
When? It can be visited all year long, though December to April, when the sea is calmer.
There are several small islands scattered in the Gulf of Mannar near Adam’s Bridge. They are made of sand dunes, so they keep changing the exact location. It is a wonderful natural process that seems like a game of the ocean. The Dancing Islands are uninhabited but are home to seagulls and have abundant marine life. According to some Indian historical records, Adam’s Bridge was above sea level until it broke in a cyclone in 1480.
