Dambakola Patuna is an ancient Sri Lankan port, located around 20 km from Jaffna. The port was used in pre-Christian times. It is known as Jambukola Patuna. It was the place where the Sangamiththa arrived in Sri Lanka with a sacred bo sapling. To commemorate this event, Samudda-panasala (Jambukola Viharaya) was built by King Devanampiya Tissa (306-266 BC). Unfortunately, the original structure of this temple and other statues are a blur, but still, Dambakola Patuna is one of the great historically valued destinations. Presently people visit Dambakola Patuna Sangamitta Temple, which resides in a picturesque spot where worshippers find solace in prayer and spiritual contemplation.
