Bathalegala Rock (Bible Rock)

This is a distinctive table mountain, rising 798 meters above sea level. It resembles an open book and was historically used as a watchtower during conflicts.

Where?
It is located in Kegalle District and approximately 90 km from Colombo.

When?
The best time to visit is from January to March for clear skies and scenic views.

Bathalegala Rock (Bible Rock) is a well-known hiking place in Sri Lanka, located about 8 km from Mawanella. It is called Bible Rock because it resembles an open bible. It used to be hidden in the thick jungle. Today, it is a famous Buddhist worship place, and it is popular for hiking. This rock is more than 500m high, and it has many breathtaking types of scenery, including cascading waterfalls, terraced paddy fields, and lush green vegetation. Besides legendary caves, the old Devalaya dedicated to the god Suniyam, a small temple, a small pagoda, and a water spring can be discovered. At the summit, travelers have a feeling they can touch the clouds, which is an amazing experience.
