Mulativu was the main hub of the LTTE terrorists for over 39 years. The area was set free in late 2008, but many ruins still testify to the cruel war. One of them is the massive water tank, which was destroyed by the LTTE and stands today as a monument of the war. There are some bunkers, which were used by the LTTE, especially the LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran. There is an underground five-story luxury bunker complex with all the facilities of a luxury house and several emergency exits and a two-story fully air-conditioned bunker with a lecture hall, an office room, a bedroom equipped with oxygen cylinders, a toilet, and a dining area. Both were made of thick concrete and hidden in thick jungle. The LTTE prison complex can be seen near the Visuvamadu Tank in Mulativu. It has sixty tiny cells for individuals and six group cells. Many wall writings (graphical and verbal messages from Muslim and Tamil prisoners) are interesting, although sad to read. There is also a massive swimming pool that belonged to the LTTE. It is 25 meters long and almost 7 meters deep, enabling the observation of diving activities through glass windows at the bottom.
