Manikkadawara Portuguese Fortress is one of the historical landmarks of foreign invaders, located near Warakapola. It was built during Jaranimodha Asawaduge’s era, between 1598 and 1607. It was a famous Portuguese operational unit, which was used at war against King Vimala Darmasooriya I. Nearby there is Atampita Viharaya, a four-story building standing on fourteen pillars.
