Lanka Patuna Viharaya is located in Lanka Patuna, about 52 km from Trincomalee. It is the location where Prince Dantha and Princess Hemamala landed with the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha. They arrived here during the reign of King Kirthi Sri Meghavarna (304-332) and handed over the tooth relic. The temple was built to commemorate the event associated with the tooth relic.
