The beautiful and picturesque Kandy Lake is a lovely centerpiece to the town. It was constructed in 1807 with the contribution of the last Sinhalese Kandy King Sri Wickrama Rajasinha. The lake’s maximum depth is around 18 meters. Kandy Lake has a decorative wall, which is called the Walakulu Wall and runs for about 630 meters along the lake. The island in the middle of the lake was used as Sri Wickrama Rajasinha’s personal harem, to which he crossed on a barge.
