AluthNuwara Dedimunda Devalaya is a popular temple located about 5 km from Hingula. It is dedicated to the goddess Dedimunda, who is believed to be the guardian of Buddha Sasana. It is a special place of worship visited by many devotees from all parts of the country, especially on Wednesdays and Saturdays, who want to get blessings from the goddess Dedimunda. A Buddhist monastic complex and shrines of Sooniam, Ghambhara, and Veerabhadra can be seen here. AluthNuwara Dedimunda Devalaya conducts the Esala festival before the Kandy Esala festival starts.
