Iranamadu Tank is a reservoir located 8 km south of Kilinochchi. It is the largest tank in the northern part of the country. Iranamadu Tank used to be called Ranmadu. It was constructed in the 5th century by King Dhatusena as one of his main constructions on the northern side. It was renovated and expanded between 1902 and 1920. It is the main source of irrigation for this area, and rice is the main crop of the irrigated area fed by this tank.
