Rumassala

What?

Where?
It is located in the Galle district and approximately 125 km from Colombo.

When?
It can be visited all year long, though the best time to visit is from December to April for clear skies and pleasant weather.

Rumassala is an area of rock sticking out of the ground. It is located close to the main harbor area, and travelers who visit Unawatuna can easily reach this area. It is only 3 km from Unawatuna beach. There is a wide variety of rare medicinal herbs. According to the legend, Hanuman went to the Himalayas to bring medicinal herbs for the injured Rama’s brother. Because Hanuman couldn’t remember the name of the herb, he brought a chunk of the peak containing many herbs. However, the mountain fragment slipped and broke into five pieces, and one of them fell to Rumassala.
