Jetavanarama Dagoba is a massive dagoba in Anuradhapura and one of eight main places of worship in the city. It was built by King Mahasena in the 3rd century. Originally, it was over 120m high, but today it is about 70m high. The area covers around 5.6 hectares. According to historical data, it was the third tallest monument in the world at that time. Today, it is still recognized as the largest Buddhist building in South Asia, built with 93 million baked bricks. The ruins that were found reflect that it was a monastery with accommodation for 3000 monks. Jetavanarama Museum is located near the dagoba. It offers more information and exhibits statues, inscriptions, and a collection of beads made from clay, gold, and gems. There is proof that the Sinhalese were capable of making iron 2000 years ago.
