Kumana Bird Sanctuary is a part of Kumana National Park in Sri Lanka’s Eastern Province. It is a paradise for bird enthusiasts and nature lovers. The 1938-established sanctuary ranks as a crucial bird breeding and nesting sanctuary within the country. The area extends across 35,665 hectares and serves as a habitat for more than 255 bird species whose ranks include both rare and migrating birds, including the black-necked stork, and Eurasian spoonbill, and lesser adjutant.

The Kumana Villu stands as the primary attraction at the sanctuary because it draws thousands of migrating birds during the April to July season through its 200- hectare natural mangrove wetland. The park allows visitors to discover its lagoons while they can observe both the tanks and the tropical dry-zone forests, which support various wildlife species.
